Algerian Novelist El-Mahdi Acherchour Longlisted for Prix Femina 2010
El-Mahdi Acherchour, a poet and novelist who has been translated into Dutch but not English, has been longlisted for the prestigious Femina for his novel Moineau.
According to the Dutch site Winternachten, “Acherchour’s prose is poetic and mysterious; his characters often live in a dreamworld in which absurd and mythical things happen.”
Acherchour lives in the Netherlands and has written two volumes of poetry and two novels.
The Prix Femina is a French literary prize created around the turn of the 20th century by writers for a magazine now known as Femina. The prize is decided each year by an exclusively female jury, although the authors of the winning works (obviously, in Acherchour’s case) need not be women.
