Librarians Pick: The Best Lebanese Children’s Books

Librarians in thirty different countries chose their favorite books for a project called “The World Through Picture Books.” The only Arab country that’s taken up the challenge (so far) is Lebanon:

Some excellent children’s book authors are on the list — including two YA authors, Fatima Sharafeddine (although she’s listed here for نورا وقصتها) and Samah Idriss (listed both for his YA امللجاء and his really funny قصة الكوى). I haven’t read all the books on the list, but the authors and publishing houses that make the list are excellent ones.

According to International Federation of Library Association organizers, this is an ongoing program. If you’re an Arab but non-Lebanese librarian and want to promote some non-Lebanese authors, do contact  Annie Everall annie – at – alannie.demon.co.uk. It’s a good chance to help publishers, too.
