‘Banipal 46: 80 Poems’ Coming Soon

Banipal 46 has gone to press, and will soon be available to subscribers. The issue features excerpts from the six novels shortlisted for this year’s International Prize for Arabic Fiction, 80 poems, and more:

banipal46The cover art, picture right, is from Moroccan artist Mahi Binebine, whose novel Horses of God will be appearing soon in English from Tin House Books.

Also: I just saw from English PEN that Binebine will be coming to the UK at the end of April. They write: “He will be in conversation at St Anne’s College, Oxford, with Oxford Student PEN on Tuesday 23 April. There will also be a film screening and Q&A at the Institut Français on Wednesday 24 April, and a discussion at the Royal African Society (SOAS) onThursday 25th April.”

The issue will feature excerpts from Amjad Nasser’s Land of No Rain (trans. Jonathan Wright), Faris al-Shidyaq’s Leg over Leg (trans. Humphrey Davies), and 80 new poems, including works by Taha Adnan, Phillip Metres, Venus Khoury-Ghata, Amjad Nasser, Khaled Mattawa, Dunya Mikhail, and Fadhil al-Azzawi.

The issue also promises to have excerpts from the six novels shortlisted for the International Prize for Arabic Fiction:
