Etisalat Prize for ‘Young Adult Book of the Year’ Goes to Noura Al Noman’s ‘Ajwan’
Wednesday morning, at the opening of the Sharjah International Book Fair, the Etisalat Prize for Arabic Children’s Literature handed out prizes in five categories, including one for the YA Book of the Year. Five excellent titles had made the shortlist; the prize went to Noura Al Noman’s SF Ajwan:
The titular Ajwan is a 19-year-old girl who is from a water-breathing race; the book opens as she narrowly escapes being killed by the natural disaster that destroys her planet and annihilates her race.
Other Etisalat winners include “best text” for Mariam al-Rasheedi’s My New Mother, “best production” to Asala Publishers for When She Gets Angry, “best illustration” for Hanadi Sileet’s drawings in Oud al-Sanabil, and “best children’s book” to Oud al-Sanabil.
