Three years ago, the news and lifestyle website Qoll.net was launched by a group of Egyptian journalists and web developers:

aswatNow they’re launching “Aswat” (Voices), a special site featuring Arabic literature in Arabic and English.

Aswat will be headed up by writer and translator Ahmed Salah Eldein.

“When we decided to partner up, we made brainstorming sessions and hundrends of discussions to make sure that we understand each other well and to share experience,” Salah Eldein said. “We made the design and started building the website and now we are about to announce the soft launch.”

At the beginning, the site won’t be updated daily, but will follow the flow of news on cultural and literary events. The site will also feature “writers of all stages, but talent and quality are basic metrics for selection.”

In the main, Aswat will focus on literary news updates, profiles, essays, and reviews. “We will work basically in Arabic and English, but we will add other languages in later stages,” Salah Eldein said.
