Shortlist Announced for Arab British Center Award for Culture

On Thursday, The Arab British Centre announce the two shortlists for the The Arab British Centre Award for Culture 2017:

According to organizers, the award “celebrates individuals and organisations whose contribution to the dissemination of Arab arts and culture has advanced dialogue and understanding of the Arab world in the United Kingdom.”

Those shortlisted in the “individuals” category:

Reem Kelani
Hannah Khalil
Issam Kourbaj
Ahmed Masoud
Elhum Shakerifar

Those shortlisted in the “organisations” category:

Arts Canteen
Comma Press
Marsm
The Mosaic Rooms
Qisetna Talking Syria

The winners of the award will win both a cash prize of £2,500 each and a British Council travel grant that will provide opportunity international networking opportunities in one of the approved countries: Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, The United Arab Emirates, Tunisia or Qatar.

This year’s judging panel include:s Sir Derek Plumbly KCMG, Chairman of The Arab British Centre; Venetia Porter, British Museum Curator of Islamic and Contemporary Art; Salma Tuqan, V&A Curator Contemporary Arab Art and Design; Carolyn Perry, Director MBI AL Jaber Foundation; British Council Director Arts for the Middle East and North Africa, David Elliott; and previous award winner and playwright Hassan Abdulrazzaq.

The winners will be announced on July 13, at The Arab British Centre’s fortieth anniversary celebration.
