Sunday Submissions: ‘In Other Words,’ an Opportunity for Authors (and Publishers) of Children’s Literature

BookTrust’s “In Other Words” is open for submissions:

They write:

BookTrust is looking for outstanding works of children’s fiction for children aged 6 to 12 that have not yet been published in the English language. We invite international publishers, agents and scouts to submit their most recent top selling titles and their untranslated classics that are still within copyright. We welcome books written by authors of all backgrounds.

That is, authors such as Sonia Nimr, Fatima Sharafeddine, Taghreed al-Najjar, Ahlam Bsharat, Rania Amin, Ibrahim Shalaby, Walid Taher, Samar Mahfouz Barraj, and their fans and publishers should find a way to submit their works.

Also from BookTrust:

A panel of expert judges will review the submissions and select up to 10 titles for partial translation. BookTrust will pay for sample translations of these texts and present them to the UK publishing community at an event at the London Book Fair in April 2018.

Last year, there were nearly 400 submissions from around the world and eight shortlisted titles. Three of these have already been sold to UK publishers: translations from the Afrikaans, Danish, and Russian. BookTrust also provides a marketing bursary of £1,500 to support UK publication of these titles.

The deadline for entries is August 16, 2017.
