A call in three languages from Taam Taim Montreal:

Do you write in Arabic and live in Canada?

The translators, members of the group Traduire l’arabe à Montréal – Translating Arabic in Montreal*, are preparing an anthology of texts written in Arabic by authors living in Montreal or elsewhere in Canada, in order to make them accessible to French- and English- speaking readers. Initially, the translators will choose and translate the texts. They will then offer them to a publisher. Please be advised that the group cannot at present guarantee the publication of the texts received. However, we have contacted some publishing houses that might be interested by the project.

The group accepts works of any lengths – short stories, poems, excerpts from novels, essays, children and teens literature, graphic novels. Please send your texts and contributions by email to the address taam.taim@gmail.com before 28 February 2018. Please attach a brief biographical note of the author.

* TAAM-TAIM’s mission is to promote the diversity of Arabic authors working in Montreal and elsewhere in Canada, by creating a network for Arabic writers and translators to meet, exchange ideas, and collaborate. The work of Arabic writers is not always accessible to English- and French-speaking readers, so we aim to provide a platform for these voices and experiences which form an integral part of the literary landscape in Quebec and elsewhere in Canada.

تعدّ رابطة المترجمات والمترجمين المسمّاة بـرابطة ترجمة العربية بمونتريال* مجموعة نصوص يكتبها كتّاب وكاتبات يقطنون في مونتريال أو في كندا، بغرض التعريف بها لدى القراء الناطقين بالفرنسية والإنجليزية. يتم في بداية الأمر انتقاء النصوص وترجمتها، ثم يتم عرضها على دار نشر. هذا ويرجى التنويه بأن رابطة ترجمة العربية بمونتريال لا تضمن في الوقت الحالي نشر النصوص التي تستلمها، غير أننا على اتصال وتفاوض مع بعض دور نشر لتحقيق هذا المشروع.

وتقبل رابطة ترجمة العربية بمونتريال القصص الصغيرة، والأشعار، ومقتطفات من روايات، ومقالات أدبية، أدب الشباب والأطفال، والروايات المصورة بغض النظر عن طولها. الرجاء ارسال نصوصكم ومساهماتكم قبل تاريخ 28 فبراير 2018 بالبريد الالكتروني المذكور أسفله وارفاقها بسيرة ذاتية مختصرة للمؤلّف أو المؤلّفة.

*تهدف رابطة ترجمة العربية بمونتريال للتعريف بتنوع الكتّاب والكاتبات الناطقين بالعربية الناشطين في مونتريال أو كندا. كما تسعى لتسليط الضوء على هذه الأصوات والقصص التي لا تلقى أحيانا حق قدرها، بالرغم من أنها تشكل جزءا لا يتجزأ من المشهد الأدبي الكيبيكي والكندي، وذلك بإنشاء ملتقى يسمح للمترجمين والمترجمات العاملين باللغة العربية بالتعاون والتناقش وتبادل الأفكار.

Vous écrivez en arabe et habitez au Canada ?

Le collectif de traductrices et traducteurs Traduire l’arabe à Montréal – Translating Arabic in Montreal* prépare un recueil de textes écrits en arabe par des auteures et auteurs vivant à Montréal et au Canada afin de les faire découvrir aux lecteurs-trices francophones et anglophones. Dans un premier temps, les textes seront sélectionnés et traduits, puis proposés à un éditeur. Pour autant, veuillez prendre note que le collectif n’est pas présentement en mesure de garantir la publication des textes reçus, mais nous sommes en contact et en négociation avec quelques maisons d’édition en vue de la réalisation de ce projet.

Nouvelles, poèmes, passages de roman, essais, littérature jeunesse et bandes dessinées de toute longueur seront acceptés. Veuillez envoyer vos textes et contributions par courriel à l’adresse taam.taim@gmail.com avant le 28 février 2018. Nous vous prions de les accompagner d’une brève biographie de l’auteur-e.

* Traduire l’arabe à Montréal-Translating Arabic in Montreal (TAAM-TAIM) a pour mission de faire connaître la diversité d’auteur.e.s arabophones œuvrant en sol montréalais ou au Canada. En créant un carrefour où peuvent se rencontrer, échanger et collaborer les traducteurs et traductrices travaillant en langue arabe, TAAM-TAIM vise à faire entendre ces voix et ces histoires qui, bien que parfois méconnues du public anglophone et francophone, n’en constituent pas moins une partie intégrante du paysage littéraire québécois et canadien.
