Sunday Submissions: Art Omi 2018 Translation Lab

Applications for the 2018 Art Omi Translation Lab are now open:

The residency dates are November 7-18, 2018, and the application Deadline is July 15.

Art Omi — formerly Ledig House — won a grant from the Amazon Literary Partnership to fund its Translation Lab 2018, a “12-day special, intensive residency for four collaborating writer-translator teams in the fall of 2018.”

According to organizers:

Writers will host four English language translators at the Art Omi campus in New York’s Hudson Valley for 12 days. These translators will be invited along with the writers whose work is being translated. All text-based projects—fiction, nonfiction, theater, film, poetry, etc.—are eligible.

This focused residency will provide an integral stage of refinement, allowing translators to dialogue with the writers about text-specific questions. It will also serve as an essential community-builder for English-language translators who are working to increase the amount of international literature available to English-language readers.

Applicants should note that all residencies are fully funded, which includes “airfare, train transportation from New York City to Hudson, car transportation from Hudson to Art Omi.” However, accepted applicants must be available November 7-18, 2018, and “late arrivals and early departures are not possible.” That is, both the author and translator must be available.
