Sunday Submissions: Anthology Searching for Poems by Young Arab Poets

Turning Point Books is looking for poetry by young Arab poets writing in English or Arabic:

From their submission guidelines. The bolding is mine:

We are looking to publish an anthology of cathartic poems by young Arab poets that express the frustrations and emotions they are dealing with in today’s world. How do young adults in Lebanon and the Arab world identify and find a sense of belonging? This new generation lives a complex life navigating between the past, present, and future. When striving for a better tomorrow, one has to take into consideration the constraints of yesterday, to attempt to establish oneself in the ever-so-unstable present.

We are encouraging interested poets to explore previously unprofessed concerns in their lives, both on an internal (psychological, personal, emotional) and external (social, cultural) level in cutting edge ways.

With a burgeoning poetry scene harnessed by local collectives, now more than ever is the time to come together and share the experiences of our charged realities.

Submissions are open from March 1st until April 15th, 2018. No submissions will be accepted after the deadline.

Genre: We accept poetry that is layered, thought-provoking, and awe-inspiring. Avoid standard rhyme schemes; we encourage experimental, yet accessible, styles of poetry. Send up to 3 poems in a single document.

Length: We’re looking for poems that do not exceed 50 lines, and prose that do not exceed 500 words.

Language: Submissions are welcome in either English or Arabic. Previously unpublished poets are encouraged to submit their work; however, we are looking for quality literary writing and writers who have a proper command of evocative language.
