Call for Submissions: ArabLit Quarterly

ArabLit will be spinning off a quarterly e-zine, on the same platform as Full Stop’s quarterly journal, to launch this fall:

ArabLit Quarterly is particularly looking for fresh interviews, long profiles, mid-length features, translated poetry, comix, cover art, translated (stand-alone) novel excerpts, translated essays, and translated flash fiction. If you have other ideas, please pitch info@arablit.org.

The inaugural issue is loosely themed BEGINNINGS.

We are also looking for your pitches for these sections:

*TRANSLATE THIS: Short essays on books that should be translated and why.

*MOSTLY FORGOTTEN CLASSICS: A short, sharply written feature on a lesser-known (but brilliant) Arabic literary work.

*LITERARY PLAYLIST: A musical playlist to go along an Arabic literary work of your choice. Bonus if it’s available in English translation.

*OPEN LETTER TO A LATE AUTHOR: An open letter to a deceased author of your choice.

The debut ALQ (Fall 2018) will also include winning submissions from the 2018 ArabLit Story Prize and a poetry-translation slam. If you are interested in participating as a slam translator or slam judge, please email info@arablit.org.

ALQ will pay authors, artists, and translators a small honorarium via PayPal.

There will be a small charge for the e-zine; however, Patreon supporters of ArabLit will receive free access.

If you are interested in participating, please email info@arablit.org. We’d prefer a 100- to 200-word pitch about what you would like to submit, rather than a completed submission. The pitch deadline is September 1, 2018. Some pitches that can’t make the inaugural issue could, of course, slip into Winter 2019.
