10 Arabic ‘Nostalgia Plays’ Come to Netflix
Netflix is releasing a series of Arabic plays before Eid al-Fitr:
With their new releases — plays such as El Eyal Kebret, Al Motzawgoon, Raya w Skeina, and Bye Bye London — Netflix promises to take viewers back to the 1970s and ’80s on “a nostalgic trip down memory lane.”
The other plays are: Morahek Fl Khamseen, Shahid Ma Shafsh Haga, Sok Ala Banatak, Madraset Almoshagbien, and Elwad Sayed Elshagal. All the plays will be subtitled in English.
In a prepared statement, Netflix’s MENA Director of Licensing Nuha AlTayeb said:
We feel a great amount of pride and joy in bringing these Arabic plays to the service – stories that many of our members in the region have grown up watching. We want to give people the opportunity to not only reminisce and relive their childhood, but allow them to create new memories with a new generation.
The plays will be available to subscribers at Netflix.com/ArabicNostalgia starting today.

I had focused on the part where the press release said “190 countries” but maybe not: “All the plays will be subbed in English and streamed around the world in 190 countries for users with Arabic user interface.” Can’t one simply…change their interface?

Just added an Arabic language profile (in the US here) but got the following message:
لم يتم العثور على عناوين مطابقة
Oh and I sure hope we have the option to play in original language and choose subtitle language!

I found some of them in the US titled in English as follows: “No Longer Kids,” “The School of Mischief,” “Raya and Sakina,” and “Bye Bye London.” Some of them, like مدرسة المشاغبين have subtitles in MSA.Others also have subtitles in Egyptian Arabic.

Also seem to be unavailable in the UK. When you contact Netflix they tell you that they are not licensed in the UK (!). But some are there under their English titles…Just maddening.
