Sunday Submissions: The Käpylä Translation Prize

The Käpylä Translation Prize is open for submissions through January 15:

The $1000 Käpylä Translation Prize — now in its second year — is awarded by the University of Connecticut’s Program in Literary Translation. It’s set to go to “an exceptional translation project of poetry, fiction, or creative nonfiction from any language into English.” The prize is open to submissions from translators “of all nationalities and backgrounds.”

Interested translators should submit:

1. A 500-750-word statement describing the project and providing basic background information on the author of the text you are translating.
2. The translator’s CV.
3. A 15 to 20-page excerpt from a book-length translation project that is currently in progress.
4. The corresponding section of text in the original language.
5. A statement from the author or copyright owner acknowledging that the translator has received permission to translate the selected work (a copy of an e-mail from the copyright holder is acceptable). If the translated work is in public domain, please indicate this in a separate file.

Happily, there is no entry fee.
