The UAE-led Poetry Push Continues

Emirati poet Mohamed Bin Hammad Al Kaabi recited his poetry at Morocco’s Assilah Arts Festival this weekend. (Watch a brief snippet above.) This is yet another poetry event organized by the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH). Other ADACH projects are the popular Million’s Poet and Prince (sic) of Poetry TV events, as well as the Poetry Academy.

Emirati poetry is even making its way into English ears: Banipal recently brought three Emirati poets to the London Lit Fest. Who knows: Perhaps a revived Arabic poetry will be the future inspiration of world poets.

Of course, on the other side of the coin, the celebrated and still-Nobel-hopeful Adonis thinks you shouldn’t love any Arabic poetry…outside of his.
