This wonderful short film visits with the six authors shortlisted for the 2012 International Prize for Arabic Fiction (IPAF), and each reads a bit from his work. I generally transcribe from videos, since I prefer media that are skimmable, but this is worth watching.

Other IPAF-shortlist news: Ezzedine Choukri Fishere, (@EzzedineCF) has apparently left all other work so that he can serialize a novel in al-Tahrir.  Once the novel begins, he will write 1,200 words a day (!) and — the experiment is — that he will keep on plunging forward with it until he’s finished. No going back.
