If You’re in Paris: Hyam Yared Round Table on March 15

Lebanese author Hyam Yared, who was one of the “Beirut39” — 39 celebrated Arab authors under 40 — will be the subject of a table ronde in Paris this week:

round_tableYared, as her PalFest biography notes, was born in Beirut in 1975, and continues to live there as an increasingly celebrated Francophone writer. Her story “Layla’s Belly” was included in the Beirut39 anthology and her second novel, Sous la tonnelle, won the Phoenix Award 2009.

Yared was also shortlisted for the 2010 Prix du roman arabe and a finalist for the Prix des cinq continents. Hyam’s second collection of poetry, Blessures de l’eau (2004), has been translated into English by Richard Burns, Melanie Rein, and Jack Hirschman as The Wounds of Water.

At the March 15 round table, Yared will read from her work, be interviewed, and  several aspects of her work will be discussed. It will be head at the EHESS-IISMM, Lombard Room, 96 bd Raspail, 75006 Paris from 2:30 to 5:45. More details here.
