Applications Open Now for Middle East America: A New National Plays Initiative

“Middle East America: A National New Plays Initiative” is now accepting applications for its second $10,000 fellowship, which includes intensitve developmental support for an American playwright of Middle Eastern descent:

meaAccording to the MEA website, “In each three-year cycle, Middle East America provides an American playwright of  Middle Eastern descent with:

· A $10,000 Fellowship

· Intensive developmental support from the Lark Play Development Center, Silk Road Rising Theatre Project and Golden Thread Productions over three years.

· Possible production at Golden Thread Productions and/or Silk Road Rising.

The first fellowship, granted in 2008, went to Adriana Sevan, with additional honors to Leila Buck and Sinan Unel.

The initiative, according to organizers, was designed to “encourage and support the development of Middle Eastern American playwrights and Middle Eastern American plays” and to “enrich the canon of American dramatic literature.”

Applications will be accepted September 3 – November 1, 2013 and a winner is set to be announced in May 2014.
