Applications for Doha Translation Summit Due Nov 7
The British Council, Bloomsbury Qatar Foundation Publishing and the British Centre for Literary Translation are co-sponsoring a Literary Translation Summit from Dec 8-12 in Doha, Qatar, alongside the Doha Book Fair:
The workshops will be followed by a series of panel discussions and keynote speeches at the Doha Book Fair, focusing on various aspects of literary translation and publishing. There will be a keynote speech on Shakespeare and translation by Patrick Spottiswoode of Shakespeare’s Globe, as well as events with Granta Best of British Novelists Steven Hall and David Szalay. The Summit will end with a celebratory event showcasing the workshop translations.
Those with an interest in literary translation are invited to apply to attend the literary translation workshops. We are offering two workshops translating from English to Arabic and one workshop translating from Arabic to English. The literary translation workshops will be led by the following translators and authors:
English to Arabic – led by Samer Abu Hawwash with David Szalay
English to Arabic – led by Marilyn Booth with author tbc
Arabic to English – led by Zeinab Mobarak with Steven Hall
Those who wish to apply for a slot, supported by the British Council, should download an application form, fill it out, and attach it in an email to waseem.kotoub@britishcouncil.org by Nov 7. The British Council will cover international economy flights and accommodation in Doha for the duration of the summit; successful applicants will be notified by Nov. 10.
