‘A Curious Land,’ ‘The Republics’ Among 2016 Winners of Arab American Book Awards
The 2016 winners of the Arab American Book Awards were announced today; they include a fiction prize for Susan Muaddi Darraj’s short story collection A Curious Land and a poetry prize for Nathalie Handal’s 2015 collection The Republics:
The nonfiction award went to two books: Handbook of Arab American Psychology, edited by Mona M. Amer and Germine H. Awad and This Muslim American Life: Dispatches from the War on Terror, by Moustafa Bayoumi.
There were also two honorable mentions: The fiction mention went to Rajia Hassib’s In the Language of Miracles and the poetry mention to Philip Metres’ Sand Opera.
The year’s winners will be honored at a ceremony set for Oct. 25 at the Lebanese American University – New York Academic Center in Manhattan.
