Sunday Submissions: Apply for 3rd Annual Bread Loaf Translators’ Conference

Applications for the third annual Bread Loaf Translators’ Conference are open through February 15:

breadThe week-long conference, set for June 3-9, is designed to suit both emerging and established translators. It includes translation workshops in poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction, as well as lectures, craft classes, meetings with editors and agents, and readings by faculty and guests. You can see a sample schedule from the 2016 conference to find out more.

According to organizers, “this conference aims to strengthen the visibility and access to high quality literary translations in the United States and to acknowledge that translators require the same training and skills as creative writers.”

The conference’s 2017 faculty areMaureen Freely, Jennifer Grotz, Suzanne Jill Levine, Christopher Merrill, and Idra Novey.

Tuition, room, and board for participants is an astronomical, eye-popping $2,205. However, this is not only for the independently wealthy translator, as financial aid is available, and organizers report there are at least two fully paid slots.

Unfortunately, there is also a $15 application fee.
