The 2018 American Literary Translations Association (ALTA) awards are now open:
In particular, the following four prizes are now accepting submissions:
- National Translation Award in Prose, for an exceptional book of translated literature published within the previous year
- National Translation Award in Poetry, for an exceptional book of translated literature published within the previous year
- Cliff Becker Book Prize in Translation, for an unpublished book-length manuscript of poetry in translation
- Travel Fellowships, for emerging translators to attend the annual conference
The first two prizes are for publishers submitting translated works of prose that were brought out in 2017. The third is for book-length manuscripts, 48 pages – 80 pages, written by a single author and translated into English. It includes a $1,000 prize and publication by White Pine Press.
The fourth is for funds to help emerging translators attend the 2018 ALTA conference, set for October 31 – November 3, 2018, in Bloomington, Indiana.
ALTA only accepts submissions through their Submittable portal, and the deadline for awards submissions is April 16, 2018, at 11:59pm EST.
The American Literary Translators Association will officially award these prizes at their annual conference, ALTA41: Performance, Props, and Platforms, in Bloomington, Indiana.
