The 2018 Ghassan Kanafani Resistance Arts Scholarship is now open for submissions:
This scholarship is open to Palestinian-American youth and Palestinian youth residing in the US, ages 18-25. Three prizes will be awarded, and these top three will win scholarship prizes of $500, $250 and $250. More winners will be published in an online anthology.
The deadline is August 15th, 2018, and the application form is available online.
This year’s judging panel includes Nadia Barhoum, Dina Omar, Omar Zahzah and Leila Abdelrazaq as returning judges, in addition to previous winner Farah Kader and Steven Salaita as first-timers.
According to organizers:
Few scholarships and grants exist for youth of Arab heritage in the US, which is why we want to fill in this gap and provide support for our own community. We want to reward our youth who demonstrate excellent writing capabilities, creativity, a strong commitment to literature and arts, and engagement in their community. Without this support, we lose the opportunity to create change within our communities and others.

The Ghassan Kanafani Scholarship Award is a good opportunity. However, I was just wondering why the name of Annie Kanafani, Ghassan’s widow and custodian, is not listed in the panel.
I don’t know, perhaps she didn’t have time or a desire to judge, but I can follow up with organizers.
