Global Voices Theatre is looking for works in translation, particularly by Arab women playwrights:
Global Voices Theatre — a platform introducing international theatre by often under-represented playwrights — curates evenings of rehearsed readings, showcasing excerpts of plays from around the globe. They aim to be “a bridge between UK venues, theatre makers and playwrights from around the globe.”
They are currently welcoming submissions from all female-identifying playwrights who are based outside of the UK. They are particularly interested in reading submissions from Arab playwrights or those from Arab-majority countries.
Rehearsed readings of the playtexts selected will be performed as part of the Arab Women Artists Now festival, on Saturday March 9, 2019.
They write: “We are looking for plays from contexts beyond the Western world; exploring issues and settings that audiences might not otherwise see in London theatres.” Plays can be any length, from any period, and with any number of characters. But they must either have been originally written in — or translated into — English.
The deadline for submissions is noon on January 31, 2019.
