Whittling our shortlist down was tough, as it always is, but these are three truly outstanding novels, with overlapping themes – devotion and rebellion, timelessness and historical contingency, free will and political power – and utterly distinct identities. Each would be a worthy winner in its own right.
Today, organizers announced the ten-book shortlist of translated literature for the 2023 EBRD Literature Prize.
“I think great literature addresses perennial questions, things that we come back to time and again. Questions of identity and relationship, you know, who we are and how we relate to other people, or the world around us. This novel dives into those questions in a unique and interesting way.”
London Rads the World Book Clube, a small and friendly group reading world literature in English translation, will be discussing ‘Mister N’ by Lebanese author Najwa Barakat, translated from the Arabic by Luke Leafgren.
