On Thursday, English PEN announced the record-high 21 books awarded 2022 PEN Translates prizes, which span 19 countries and 18 languages.
Books are selected for PEN Translates awards on the basis of “outstanding literary quality, the strength of the publishing project, and their contribution to UK bibliodiversity.”
They will support 15 titles from 14 countries in 12 languages, including two titles translated from Arabic.
For the first time, one of the “PEN Translates” awards will go to a South Sudanese novel.
The PEN Translates award is open for submissions through the end of May.
This marks the largest number of books PEN Translates has selected in a single year.
