Next Wednesday, The Common magazine will launch their twenty-third issue. This issue features a special section that includes ten short stories by Palestinian authors, including Samira Azzam’s “The Roc Flew over Shahraban,” translated by Ranya Abdel Rahman, from a collection of Azzam’s stories, Out of Time, (finally) forthcoming this fall.
Mizna is seeking submissions for its Black SWANA issue as well as applicants for its summer internships.
Earlier this month, the North Carolina-based Khayrallah Center announced that, through its partnership with USEK Library in Lebanon, the center would be adding digital periodicals from USEK’s Latin American collection to their online searchable database of Arabic newspapers published in the Americas.
Admissions are open for the International Literary Translation and Creative Writing Summer School 2022.
Several Arabic-English literary translators are speaking at panel events, including Nariman Youssef, Alice Guthrie, Sawad Hussain, Katharine Halls, and Marilyn Booth. A handful of Emirati writers will also be speaking, including poets Khalid AlBudoor and Afra Atiq, and novelist Dubai Abulhoul.
The Etel Adnan Poetry Prize and the National Translation Award are both open for submissions until mid-April.
